Runtime management

All IBM® WebSphere® sMash applications include the necessary components to allow a running server to be managed and to manage other WebSphere sMash applications. Examples of some of the types of management functions all applications have embedded within them include starting, stopping, recycling, monitoring, statistics and configuring other applications.

WebSphere sMash management is unique in that not only each application contain the ability to be managed, but all WebSphere sMash applications contain the ability to manage other WebSphere sMash applications running from the same server.

Objectives

The WebSphere sMash management functions provide a robust set of tools and APIs to enable the day-to-day administration of WebSphere sMash applications that are running and being used by your users. These tools and APIs provide the following functions:

  • CLI commands to allow complete control of the life cycle of an Application.
  • A REST API to allow programmatic control of the life cycle and configuration of an Application.
  • A peer to peer style administration, such that there is no master controlling process or master agent.
