Home page rework
- get the Zero Obstacles tagline back in play (in progress w/ Jeff, Marc, Will)
- snapshot of 1st pass homepage:
| Component | Will | Marc | Jeff ie. final decision ! | Real Final Decision |
| Simple. Free. Open | Drop it entirely | Reword - Simple. Open. Free | Intentionally ordered as presented complexity/simple, overhead/free, obstacles/open. | Probably just drop it. |
| Repeated use of "IBM WebSphere sMash" | shorten subsequent ref's to "WebSphere sMash", | no input (leave as-is) | I thought it was a branding requirement to leave IBM in front. | TBD |
| Repeated bolding of IBM WebSphere sMash | no coment | pain text after the first instance | Glad to drop bolding of subsequent instances of the terms in the opening paragraph(s). | TBD |
| "That's our goal for IBM WebSphere sMash..." | no comment | add "...and Project Zero" | Don't like the add of "...and Project Zero" - in that location it implies an artifact, not a website. Would be more OK if we made it "...and projectzero.org". (Need some consistency in how we display URLs as text - camel case ProjectZero.org, UPPER.lower IBM.com, etc..). Adding the .org to the opening para might elicit more of the "you're abusing .org sentiment. | TBD |
| Breaks between the sentences for WebSphere sMash DE and Silverstone | no comment | separate the two sentences | No argument against - but we need to look at the whitespace balance | TBD - try it and see |
| "We hope you'll enjoy working with us in this new and exciting way!" | no comment - leave as-is | remove | I'd like to see us do something to encourage people to participate, and hammer on the idea that this is a different new way. Could be in the About. | Drop it |
Clarify Experimental vs Stable on the site
- we have very little guidance or even use of these terms. May be causing confusion among users.
Visual design of the reworked download counter
- remove zero, square edges, colors? links/pop-up menu? what else?
- 3 options to look at:
- Will likes option 3 with subtle mouseover highlighting as with top right menu buttons.
- Decided at the 2008-06-10 scrum to go with option 3 and try to add the onhover highlighting from the menu bar.
